Beside Our Sandy Shore was produced for the Cannon Beach History Center & Museum for an exhibit on photographer Frank Woodfield and his wife Irta Woodfield (Astoria, Oregon).

Historical Note

Frank W. Woodfield was an early 20th century photographer well known for his photo postcards of the Oregon Coast.

Woodfield was born in Astoria, Oregon on July 17, 1879. A year after graduating from Astoria High School in 1898, he started his own company selling wholesale produce, and fixing bicycles. In 1910, Woodfield was introduced to photography by a man named Elmer Alan Coe. Both he and Coe would travel the coastline, capturing the most iconic of Oregon images. Woodfield and Coe took many photos of early Cannon Beach, Astoria and Arch Cape.
